The Fort Worth Star-Telegram is reporting on a wrongful death case being handled by Budge & Heipt. The case involves the 2023 death of Glenn Earl Smallwood, a 33-year-old U.S. Army Veteran who died in the Angelina County Jail after his jailers strapped him into a restraint chair while he was in the midst of a mental health crisis. Southern Health Partners, a large correctional healthcare company that contracted with Angelina County, is named in the suit due to outlined failures surrounding Mr. Smallwood’s lack of appropriate medical care in the jail.
