Many of the cases we handle at Budge & Heipt involve matters of significant public interest. The great majority of our wrongful death and serious injury cases are brought against counties, cities, states and their officers. These cases often result in significant media attention.
At Budge & Heipt, we pride ourselves on taking wrongful death and catastrophic injury cases resulting from constitutional violations by public agencies and their officers, as well as private companies and corporations that contract to provide jail and jail health services. Because our cases involve constitutional violations by public bodies and the private companies with whom they contract, we firmly believe that the public has the right to ongoing information about the status of these cases and important evidence that we discover. For this reason, we sometimes provide public access to key information about these cases. These include legal filings (such as the court complaint and important court rulings, as well as significant deposition transcripts and other information). We do not post about every case we handle, and we do not post everything about our ongoing cases. Sometimes, for example, the court will limit the information that can be publicly disclosed. However, when no such limitation exists, we will often post updated information about our cases so that citizens can be aware of the work we are doing and the evidence we uncover as we proceed.
